About

Me and my assistant Vera the Corgi.

In 2012 my business was born from a passion to create and acquire all the things I love and pass on to fellow devotees at realistic prices.

The catalyst for what is now Scottish Cashmere Australia / Gramon ( instagram @gramoncathy) was looking for a baby pink cashmere travelwrap for myself, made in Scotland, along with the desire to make cushions!  After selling out my starting stock on the sidelines at my son's school cricket match one thing led to another and my business started and flourished! I have been completely overwhelmed over the years at how well what I love and acquire has been received and snapped up by an ever growing customer base. I'm beyond grateful for all my customer's love and support and appreciate every single order!

Since 2023 lampshades handmade by me and unique lamp bases have been added to my inventory. My passion is to create and acquire all the things I love, then to pass on to fellow devotees at realistic prices.

Scottish Cashmere Australia/Gramon has been broadening in diversity of products in the intervening years; as I'm a hopelessly obsessed traveller with a particular love for the UK and France. I continue to test the bounds of baggage allowance along with sending back several hundred kilograms of treasure each trip which is, happily for me, usually snapped up quite smartly. I could write a thesis on baggage allowance on different airlines!

I import an eclectic array of niche designer fabric ; predominantly English and French country linens as well as beautiful unusual vintage and antique finds that I unearth on my travels. I then transform these treasures into bespoke or limited run cushions and lampshades ( amongst other things). I can also re cover your loved lampshades using your existing frame ( not soft sided lampshades yet!)

Working with a greatly accomplished curtain maker and upholsterer I can help you with your home renovation projects. Having renovated three historic properties with eye catching kitchens and bathrooms I can advise on your interiors.  I have no qualifications but if you like my style I can help!

Quality antique European linens are becoming scarce but I've managed to find a few sources in France, UK and Europe who supply me with the most gorgeous vintage and antique linen sheets, napkins, tea towels, tablecloths, grainsacks and assorted other curiosities.

I've also been dabbling in my own cashmere designs; made in collaboration with some of the oldest and most established mills in Scotland who also produce for the world's biggest luxury brands. These mills use the finest cashmere available which is an expression of my weakness for the best natural and sustainable fibres.

During my travels I've sampled cashmere from many companies and countries. You just cannot buy cashmere from anywhere else that matches the quality and longevity of that produced in Scotland. I haven't met a customer yet who has regretted their decision to invest in Scottish cashmere. The feedback I constantly receive is that it's worth the investment.  The  majority of my cashmere customers are those returning to invest in different colours. If you are unlucky enough to have pesky moths munch on your investment I have people who can restore invisibly in most cases.

Until 2020 I predominantly sold online and at various private school fairs in Sydney as well as a few select country charity events. In 2020 we moved to Balmain Sydney where I have a shop front which is open from 11-4 some Saturdays or by arrangement any other time so I rarely participate in events these days. My Balmain studio holds far more stock than my website or instagram.

Since 2017 I have had a stall at Dirty Jane's Bowral where there is a selection of my stock. The staff there are fantastically helpful and will contact me for bespoke projects or additional stock. Dirty Jane's Bowral has been a wonderful way of finding followers outside of Sydney.

I'm always on the lookout for a run of something beautiful or things that I can make beautiful so keep an eye on my instagram page @gramoncathy.

Please sign up for my emails. You will always be the first to know about anything new or when I have a rare sale!

If you are Sydney based or visiting you are welcome to make a private appointment to see the collection if my Saturday opening times don't suit or you have a large scale order.

Many thanks for looking at my collection. I hope you love my acquisitions and designs as much as I do.

All the best.
